Summary:
The Fleet Manager is responsible for overseeing the planning, coordination, and management of all fleet operations within the transportation department. This role requires a strong understanding of transportation logistics, fleet maintenance, and compliance regulations. The Fleet Manager will be responsible for optimizing fleet utilization, ensuring timely deliveries, and maintaining cost-effective operations.
Responsibilities:
1. Develop and implement strategic plans for the fleet department to ensure efficient and effective transportation operations.
2. Coordinate and oversee the scheduling and dispatching of fleet vehicles to meet customer demands while maximizing driver productivity.
3. Monitor and analyze transportation data, including vehicle utilization, fuel consumption, maintenance costs, and driver performance, to identify areas for improvement.
4. Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations pertaining to transportation, including DOT regulations, hours of service, and vehicle maintenance.
5. Collaborate with internal departments, including logistics, operations, and maintenance, to optimize fleet performance and resolve any operational issues.
6. Identify and implement cost-saving initiatives to improve fleet efficiency, such as route optimization, fuel management, and maintenance practices.
7. Develop and maintain relationships with third-party vendors, including truck leasing companies, fuel suppliers, and maintenance service providers.
8. Recruit, train, and mentor fleet personnel to ensure a skilled and motivated workforce.
9. Implement safety programs and initiatives to promote a culture of safety and reduce accidents/incidents.
10. Prepare and present regular reports on fleet performance, including key performance indicators, to senior management.
Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in Transportation Management, Logistics, or a related field.
2. Proven experience (minimum 5 years) in fleet management within the transportation industry, preferably in a supervisory or managerial role.
3. Comprehensive knowledge of transportation logistics, fleet operations, and regulatory compliance (DOT, hours of service, etc.).
4. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze data, identify trends, and make data-driven decisions.
5. Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
6. Demonstrated ability to develop and implement transportation strategies to optimize fleet utilization and reduce costs.
7. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with internal teams and external vendors.
8. Proficiency in using transportation management software systems and MS Office Suite.
9. Knowledge of safety regulations and experience implementing safety programs within a fleet operation.
10. Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and develop a high-performing team.
